Corduroy

Corduroy is a very cute little bear who lives at a store with the other stuffed animals and dolls. He's been there a long time and no one wants him...until a little girl stops to look at him and wants to take him home. But here mama says no and that his overalls are missing a button. Missing a button? He didn't know that! That night, he goes in search of his button.

Corduroy has a grand adventure going up the escalator, into the furniture room where he thinks he finds his button. But he doesn't, and he gets caught by the night watchman who returns him to his shelf. Corduroy is a little sad...until the little girl comes back to get him!

I like Corduroy! I want Mama to read it every night!

Mama says a typewriter is kinda like her laptop. It has letters you push with your fingers. Only, those letters appear on paper instead of a screen. I find that a little bit hard to understand...

But the cows that live at Farmer Brown's have a typewriter. They use it to type him messages and tell him it's cold in the barn and they want electric blankets. Farmer Brown says that's silly until the cows type him a message to say there will be no more milk until they get the blankets. Then the chickens want electric blankets, too, and say they won't give any eggs until they get them. Farmer Brown says no, that's silly, too.

But without any milk...and without any eggs...and without any electric blankets... Finally, the cows type Farmer Brown one more message to settle everything!

Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel

Mike Mulligan has a steam shovel named Mary Anne. She has worked a long, long time and other big machines are better and newer than her. But Mike thinks she's still strong and can work very hard, so they work all day to shovel a huge ditch for the a new building. And they do it! But they get stuck in the pit! A little boy helps them out, and they stay in town to do new jobs, because they are still strong and can work hard.

I like Mary Anne, but my favorite is a book called Katy about a very strong snow plow. You should read that one, too!

Caps for Sale

There once was a man who had lots and lots of caps on his head - blue ones, red ones, grey ones, brown ones. He was trying to sell them.

One afternoon, he was so sleepy he fell asleep under a tree. When he woke up, all his caps were gone! He looked up in the tree and saw lots of monkeys - all them wearing his caps! He told them to give them back, but they didn't. He wagged his finger, and waved his hands, and stamped his feet. The monkeys wagged their fingers, and waved their hands, and stomped their feet. But they didn't give him back his caps. Until the man through his own cap on the ground. Then all the monkeys threw their caps on the ground. The man picked them up, put them back on his head and went back to town to sell his caps.

I'm not sure what happened to the monkeys...and Mama doesn't know either.
