The Little Engine that Could

Mama says she remembers reading this book when she was a little girl. Maybe you have read it, too! It’s about a bunch of toys who are going to some girls and boys on the other side of a big mountain, but their train breaks down and can’t make it over the mountain. They ask every train that comes by to take them, but the trains are too busy and don’t want to help. When a tiny blue train comes along, he says he’ll help even though he looks too small to make it all the way over the mountain with such a big load. But he thinks he can and keeps telling himself that: I think I can, I think I can… And he does! And all the children get their toys. Yea!

Little Gorilla

When little gorilla is born, his Mama and Papa love him very much. So do all the other animals: the lion, and the elephant, and the giraffe, and the snake. But then he grows so very, very big! He is bigger than all the other animals. Will they be scared of him and not love him anymore? No. They still love him very much. Just like Mama and Papa love me, even though I am getting soooo big!

Go Away, Big Green Monster!

I like monsters. I like blue ones with purple spots (named Sully) and funny ones. The green monster in this book is fun. As you flip the pages, you see his yellow eyes, and red mouth, and purple hair…but he doesn’t scare me! I tell him to go away. And as I turn the pages some more, away goes his purple hair, and scary teeth and yellow eyes. Until he’s all gone. Yea!

The Mitten

One of my favorite books is Gingerbread Baby. My cousins gave it to me for Christmas one year. This book is by the same writer and I like it, too.

Nicki’s grandma makes him a pair of mittens the color of the snow. She tells him not to loose them, but when he’s out exploring he drops one. First, a little mole crawls inside to get warm. And then a rabbit, and a hedgehog, and an owl, a badger, a fox, a bear and even a huge moose! The mitten keeps stretching and stretching…until all the animals come tumbling out and it blows away. Back to Nicki who takes it home to his grandma…who wonders why it’s so stretched out!
