A Visitor for Bear

Bear does not like visitors. At all. So, when Mouse comes to visit… He tries to make Mouse leave. But Mouse keeps coming back! So, Bear locks the door. And boards up the windows and fireplace. He even stops up the bathtub! But Mouse keeps getting in, asking for some tea and cheese. Finally, Bear just lets Mouse visit. He makes tea, gets out some cheese and bread and makes a nice fire to sit by. And they talk. And Mouse laughs at Bear’s jokes. Bear likes Mouse coming to visit so much he doesn’t want Mouse to go! It is so very nice to have friends.

Happy Birthday, Moon!

One night bear sees the moon and think he can talk to it. He goes way up in the hills so he can be close to the moon and talk to it. And the moon talks back! Whatever bear says, the moon says back. Bear tells the moon his birthday is tomorrow. Moon tells bear his birthday is tomorrow. So, bear buys moon a hat. Which he puts in a tree that night. The next morning, the hat has fallen off the tree and bear thinks moon gave him a hat, too! It is very silly because bear does not know the moon is not talking but his own voice is an echo in the mountains. But that is okay, because at least bear has a new friend!

Harry, the Dirty Dog

Harry is a very cute little white dog with black spots. But he hates to take a bath. Instead, he hides the scrub brush and runs away to get very, very, very dirty. Until he becomes a black dog with white spots! He’s so dirty when he goes home, his family doesn’t even know who he is. Until he gives them his scrub brush and they give him a bath. Then he’s all clean. But he hides his scrub brush again. I don’t know why. I LOVE baths!!!

I am Abraham Lincoln

Today is America’s Birthday. We are having a birthday party at Grandpa and Grandma’s with hamburgers, and chips, and homemade ice cream. Yummy!

In America, we elect Presidents. A long time ago, one of those Presidents was Abraham Lincoln. He was very tall. And he grew up in a small home without a lot of books to read. But he was smart and determined to learn. Anyone can be President of America.

Some say he was the best President ever. Some say he was a very bad President. Mama says that, in the end, he was a man who could do good and bad. Just like all Presidents.
